How to print a PDF at actual size

A few small settings make a big difference. Start with the PDF, match your paper, and keep the scale at 100%.

1. Download the PDF first

Use Download PDF on the template page. Open the generated file in your browser’s PDF viewer or a PDF app. Print the file itself so that the site’s navigation and controls are left off the paper.

2. Match the paper size

Choose US Letter for 8.5 × 11 inch paper, or A4 for 210 × 297 mm paper. The editor lets you change paper size while keeping your text. Generate a new PDF after changing the size.

Not sure which size is in your printer?

3. Select Actual size or 100%

Open the print dialog. In the scale or size setting, select Actual size or enter 100%. Avoid “Fit to page” when you want the original proportions. Check that portrait orientation is selected.

Check the preview before you print.

Our layouts leave at least 12 mm around the page. If your printer requires larger margins, the preview may show clipping. Use a printer that supports those margins, or reduce the scale slightly and check again; that print will no longer be at actual size.

4. Use black and white

The printable designs are already black and white. Your printer’s grayscale or black-and-white setting is suitable. Try one copy before printing a stack, and check that the text and handwriting spaces work for you.

Saving on a phone or tablet

Your browser may open the generated PDF instead of downloading it. On iPhone or iPad, use the share button and Save to Files, or choose Print if a compatible printer is available. On Android, use the PDF viewer’s download or share control. The exact names vary by browser and PDF app.
