A4 vs. US Letter: which paper size should you choose?
Choose the paper that is actually in your printer. Both sizes contain the same template content, with a layout fitted to that page.
| Paper | Dimensions | Shape |
|---|---|---|
| US Letter | 8.5 × 11 in 215.9 × 279.4 mm | A little wider and shorter |
| A4 | 210 × 297 mm About 8.27 × 11.69 in | A little narrower and taller |
Check the packet or printer tray
The label on the paper packet is the easiest way to know. US Letter is common in the United States and Canada. A4 is common in the United Kingdom, Australia, and many other countries. Your own paper label is more useful than your location.
Choose the same size in the editor
Every Easy Printables template offers both sizes. Changing the size keeps your edits and rearranges the layout for that page. Text stays readable, and longer content can add pages.
Then match the print setting
After downloading, set the printer dialog to the same paper size and portrait orientation. Use Actual size or 100% scaling. Printing a Letter PDF on A4, or an A4 PDF on Letter, can cause cropping or automatic resizing.
Can I just use “Fit”?
Fit can help when your PDF and paper do not match, but it changes the scale. For predictable handwriting space and margins, go back to the editor, choose the correct size, and generate a new PDF.
